Maggie Mapalo Mwape

Maggie Mwape is the founder and executive director of the Centre for Environment Justice (CEJ) established 2010, a leading Zambian environmental advocacy organization advancing environmental justice, natural resource governance, climate action, and community rights. With over 15 years of progressive experience in environmental governance, extractive industries accountability, community development, and policy advocacy, Maggie has emerged as one of Zambia’s prominent voices in environmental justice and sustainable development.


Under her leadership, CEJ has grown into a nationally and regionally recognized institution driving evidence-based advocacy, policy dialogue, and community cantered environmental monitoring. She has strategically positioned CEJ as a bridge between communities, government, civil society, donors, and the private sector ensuring that environmental governance processes are inclusive, transparent, and accountable. As executive director, her key responsibilities include providing strategic leadership and oversight of CEJ operations, developing and implementing strategic plans, overseeing project implementation, ensuring compliance with regulations, and engaging with corporate partners and stakeholders.


One of Maggie’s most notable achievements is the establishment of the Environmental Protection Dialogue (EPD) - https://epd.cejzambia.org/ an innovative multi-stakeholder platform convened by CEJ annually. The EPD has become one of Zambia’s most prominent national environmental advocacy forums and is increasingly recognized across Africa as a model platform for engagement on environmental protection, extractive industries governance, climate justice, and sustainable development.


She is currently a PhD Candidate focusing on Green Bonds and Sustainable Investment and holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with specialty in corporate governance and sustainability. She also holds Diplomas in Practitioner Human Resource and Business Administration, and has professional qualifications in Strategic Environmental Assessment, Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Social Safeguards, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Climate Diplomacy and Governance.
